The R-key is known as sheath and unsheathe key. Sheathed is defined as a weapon or a magic staff equipped you have. You controlled character is able to unsheathe his weapon by pressing the R-key, and now he is ready for combat. The weapon is put away when you press the R-key again. Your character will move to the third person perspective to make it easier to keep full awareness during combat if you have a melee weapon equipped by unsheathing a weapon. Only when you sheathe your weapon can you interact with any object in the game. After you defeat a monster, you can use the F key to loot it after you press R.
